Ancient Buddhist Outpost

Kotaveheragala preserves the remains of a small but significant Buddhist monastery from the Anuradhapura period. The partially restored dagoba and surrounding ruins indicate a self-contained monastic community that existed for several centuries.

Visiting

A minor archaeological site near Ampara. No entrance fee or facilities. Best visited alongside the more significant eastern heritage sites. The rural setting among paddy fields is pleasant.
